Final Project

 How Music Comments On Life 

    Music can comment on society by giving people the freedom to release their emotions. All songs have emotions to them whether it be happy, sad, anger, or love and other emotion there is. Listening to and creating songs can also help people express how they are feeling. if they listen to a sad song more than likely that person is sad and so on for happy songs, love songs, and any other songs. Music can also improve your health and well being it has ways of releasing stress, and also pain. Music can do so much for a person by just listening to it. 


One song that I listen to when I'm sad or also just need to calm down and relax is When The Partys Over by Billie Eilish.

Billie Eilish has such a deep voice and so soothing that it calms people down and goes perfectly with her lyrics. Multiple lines in this song are about heartbreak and the girl coping with her feelings from a relationship.

Let’s just let it go
Let me let you go


In this bridge of the song, they are meaning that it's better once they both move on and let go of the relationship. She is trying to let go of the guy and he seems to be fighting back for her even though their relationship is toxic. 

The voice and the slow melody in the songs tie the lyrics and her voice all together and just soothe you. Sometimes you don't need to go through a breakup to listen to sad songs sometimes they can either soothe you or they can open up your eyes to the world around you and help you know what others are going through.

Enough about sadness, for now, let's talk about how songs can bring joy and happiness into life when listening to them. 

The song Happy By Pharrell Williams

The Song Happy is just about being happy and that there are no limits to your happiness. 

During the song, there is a line that says 

"Because I’m happy / Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof / Because I’m happy / Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth / Because I’m happy / Clap along if you know what happiness is to you / Because I’m happy / Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do."

These lines are basically saying that he is super happy with his life and that nothing can bring him down and when he says that clap along if you feel like a room without a roof, that is meaning to his happiness there is no limits and since nothing can hold him down.

    Your thesis is dead on. I use music as an outlet to help me process whatever it is that is on my mind. No matter the emotion music helps me release the emotions so I don't bottle it up. It has really helped me be more open because before I would just shut down and eventually it comes out just not as you expect it to.

Mamas Broken Heart, sung by Miranda Lambert and written by Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, and Kacey Musgraves, was released on January 14, 2013.  Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert was the song I grew up listening to. It was very catchy for me, and since all the girls in my family loved listening to the country, we would blast this in the car and all sing along to it. This song is a country song. This song is, for the most part, fast and keeps the rhythm the same.  Lyrics- this song is about a girl who went unhinged after a nasty breakup. She does some wild things after she gets broken up with. In the song, she sings, " I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors, I screamed his name till the neighbors called the cops." musical analysis 2- Dawns- Zach Bryan

  Dawns, sung and written by Zach Bryan and featuring Maggie Rogers, was released in 2023.  This song is not just any other country song. This song is about two different types of heartbreaks in one. He couldn't control one of the heartbreaks, and he decided on the other one. I never realized how deep the song was until I searched for what the lyrics meant. This song caught my attention when it first came out due to the catchy tune.  Lyrics - The song starts with him begging to have his dignity and belongings back from his ex, whom he feels has wasted his time. He also commented in the song that it was his mistake that she never cared about Jesus, so he must deeply care about his religion.   Ann Powers does a great job describing how Bryan's vocals amplify the howling pain and heartbreak in the song.   Chords - During this song, four chords are used.
