musical analysis #1- Mamas Broken Heart
Mamas Broken Heart, sung by Miranda Lambert and written by Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, and Kacey Musgraves, was released on January 14, 2013.
Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert was the song I grew up listening to. It was very catchy for me, and since all the girls in my family loved listening to the country, we would blast this in the car and all sing along to it. This song is a country song. This song is, for the most part, fast and keeps the rhythm the same.
Lyrics- this song is about a girl who went unhinged after a nasty breakup. She does some wild things after she gets broken up with. In the song, she sings, " I cut my bangs with some rusty kitchen scissors, I screamed his name till the neighbors called the cops." Throughout the song, she explains what this girl does and how messed up it got her. This song scared me from having a boyfriend for a long time just because of the pain this woman goes through. Throughout the song, it's the girl's point of view on what happened and what she has done. Then it changes when the moth gets involved, telling her to pull herself together, as Catherine Walthall helped explain better.
Vocals- the vocals in this song range from an E3 to a B4, which is only an octave and a half. Her vocals in this song stay at the same key throughout most of the music and don't go very high. She had a very raspy and beautiful voice when she sang this song, which, from experience, trying to stay in key with her voice is not very easy.
Chord choices- this song only has two different chords played in it. They are Em and B7 chords played on the guitar throughout this whole song. This makes the song unique and most likely easy to play as long as you know which note to play on what song verse.

I LOVE this song! It was one of my favorites growing up too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good song.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your analogy of the song. I had to listen to it to see what you were talking about with the vocals and chords that were used, and I would have to agree. Maddie and Tae's song die from a broken heart might be a song you might like as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Paityn,
ReplyDelete“Mama’s Broken Heart” Has been one of my favorites for a long time. It isn’t something that necessarily seek out to listen to but if it comes on in the car or something I’ll turn it up. I like that during this scene there are two different perspectives one by her and she is this raging ex-girlfriend and her mom how is telling her to keep it together to save face. I found that when she was singing the chorus of the song that she would pick it up you could really feel the frustration with her mom wanting her to save her appearance for people and not just being supportive of her being brokenhearted. I think that you did a great job on your musical analysis. Thank you for sharing.
